HIST 240 - History of Latin AmericaCredit Hours 3 Lecture: 3 Lab: 0 An introductory survey of Latin American history from pre-Columbian times to the present. The course focuses on various historical issues and problems, including human and physical geography; indigenous civilizations; European expansion and colonization; problems of race, ethnicity, class and gender; colonial economic, political, constitutional, and religious structures; struggle for independence; 20th century search for politcal and economic; stability; and environmental degradation, population expansion; rapid urbanization, relations with the United States, and the place of Latin America in the post-Cold War reconfiguration of the world.
