HIST 270 - History of War II

A study of World War II from its origins in the peace steelement following World War I through the final surrender of Germany and Japan and the beginnings of the Cold War. The course focuses on the events, ideologies, and personalities which shaped the totalitarian regimes of Germany, Italy, and Japan, as well as those of the Allies, and their impact on the world. It explores the nature of fascist ideology, the failure of the western allies to act in the face of aggressive warlike states, the course of the war throughout the world, the impact on civilians, the Nazi racial policies which led to the Holocaust, and the unleashing of the nuclear age. Prerequisite: HIST 104 with a minimum grade of C or HIST 106 with a minimum grade of C or HIST 108 with a minimum grade of C
