Technology has changed the face of administrative roles in both the private and public sectors. The increased use of technology in the office means job applicants with extensive knowledge of software applications will be in high demand. The Administrative Assistant program offers a curriculum that includes the latest technology and skills and the use of computer-based word processing, spreadsheet, database, and accounting software in the performance of office functions. Courses are designed for students entering the curriculum for the first time and for students preparing for a return to the work force or making a career change. Many courses are offered online providing the student with additional opportunities for completing the degree. Upon completion of this program, students may be prepared to pass the Microsoft Certification exams. Graduates of this program will have many career opportunities as this field is growing.

General Education Requirements: 15 Semester Hours


Select courses from the following groups:

Group I: Communications  - Must take either ENG 101 or ENG 130, and COMM 101 (6 credit hours) Students may substitute ENG 102 or ENG 230 for either of the above courses.

Group II: Social and Behavioral Sciences  - 3 credit hours required

Group III: Humanities and Fine Arts  - No specific minimum credit hours required. This category is optional for AAS degrees. Students are encouraged to select a Humanities or Fine Arts course as part of their General Education coursework.

Group IV: Math/Sciences  - 3 credit hours required

Group V: Career Enhancement  - No specific minimum credit hours required. This category is optional for AAS degrees.
