NA 122 - Basic Electrocardiography Technician

This course is designed for students with an employment or educational background in the healthcare field or students preparing to enter a healthcare degree program. Learning to perform non-invasive electrocardiography procedures and identifying rhythms will be a valuable addition to the skill set of today’s healthcare worker.  Lecture topics include techniques for performing a 12-lead EKG, identifying rhythms and rhythm abnormalities, how cardiac drugs affect an EKG and telemetry unit monitoring. Prerequisite: High school diploma or GED; COMPASS placement into ENG 021 and ENG 099 or the EAP course sequence ENG 078 and ENG 088, or ENG 096; or minimum grade “C” in one of the following: ENG 020 and ENG 098, or the EAP course sequence ENG 077 and ENG 087. Prerequisite: High school diploma; placement into ENG 099 and ENG 021 or minimum grade “C” in ENG 098 and ENG 020.  Educational background and/or work experience in the healthcare field or preparing to enter a healthcare degree program.
