NURS 142 - Concepts of Maternal/Child NursingCredit Hours 5 Lecture: 3 Lab: 5.5 This course utilizes the art and science of nursing including the principles of the nursing process, QSEN competencies, and the NCSBN test plan to acquire knowledge, skills, and attitudes in the care of women, children, and families. Some concepts include growth and development, sexuality and reproduction, culture, self-management, health disparities, health promotion, family dynamics, mood and cognition, and homeostasis and regulation. Students will gain knowledge in pharmacology related to healthcare of women and children. The clinical portion of this course introduces and implements clinical reasoning skills. It continues the practice and application of assessment, communication, and psychomotor skills in practice settings focusing on healthcare needs of women, children, and the family. Prerequisites NURS 112, NURS 122, with minimum grade C. Admission into the nursing program. CPR certification, and CNA Certification required. BIO 250, BIO 251, BIO 240, COMM 101, ENG 101, HEAL 109, NURS 100, PSYC 101. A four-credit hour elective must be completed prior to graduation. All of the general education courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or better. Concurrent NURS 132, minimum grade C, prior to or concurrent. Is course repeatable for credit?
