NURS 242 - Concepts of Nursing LeadershipCredit Hours 4 Lecture: 2 Lab: 5 This course synthesizes the art and science of nursing, including by integrating the principles of the nursing process, QSEN competencies, and the NCSBN test plan to assimilate the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed in the role of the professional nurse. Transition discussion topics include surviving the first year as a new RN, maintaining competencies, managing moral dilemmas, medication error prevention, career employment, continuing professional education, and career advancement. The course also includes a review of nursing licensure requirements and the NCLEX-RN examination. Emphasis in this course is on nursing management, leadership, critical thinking and reasoning. Students will gain knowledge in pharmacology related to specific disease processes. The clinical portion of this course consists of a preceptorship experience, which focuses on preparation of the nurse generalist through integration of clinical reasoning skills to design and implement a plan of care that prioritizes multiple patients throughout the life span with complex needs. Prerequisites NURS 212, NURS 222, minimum grade of C. Concurrent NURS 232, minimum grade of C, prior to or concurrent. Is course repeatable for credit?
