Program Code: CO230

The Computer Network Specialist AAS degree provides students with a diverse education in computers and networking which will prepare them for a variety of career options including network administrator, networking support technician, help desk support, networking engineers, and networking security, to name a few.

The Network Specialist degree program provides students with exposure to a broad spectrum of computer and network related issues. Extensive hands-on use of the tools, methods, and software used in modern business computer environments is an integral part of many of the classes. This includes courses in the latest Windows client and server operating systems and Linux system software. The program also provides students with the opportunity to prepare for numerous highly regarded industry certifications from industry leaders Cisco, Microsoft, and CompTIA. These include certification prep classes on Windows server and client operating systems; Cisco routers; and CompTIA Security+, A+, and Network+. These certifications provide students with an additional way to demonstrate their skills and knowledge to potential employers.

Employment of network and computer systems administrators is projected to grow 12 percent from 2012 to 2022, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Growth will be highest at firms that provide cloud computing technology.
