A comprehensive program backed by a multibillion-dollar company, the Cisco program provides Internet technology skills essential in today’s global economy. The Information Technology - Networking (ITN) also referred to as (INTErNET) program prepares students for the 21st century in the workplace while serving as a model for successful interactive learning. The ITN A.A.S. degree provides students with a diverse education in computers and networking with a focus on analyzing and configuring networks, cloud systems, security and wireless telecommunication systems. 

The ITN degree provides exposure to a broad cross-section of computer and network security topics. The Cisco CCNA Security program at JJC is also recognized by the United States National Security Agency (NSA). The program includes hands-on experience using tools and equipment to provide businesses and governments both secure and reliable communication systems. Protection of assets inclusive of malware containment and mitigation and other types of cyber-attacks are also covered. In-depth analysis and hands-on exploration of advanced tools and topics relating to cloud, wireless, networking, security, presence and collaborative services is also a major part of the program.

The program also provides students with the opportunity to prepare for numerous highly regarded industry certifications from industry leaders such as: Cisco, CompTIA, Rackspace Cloud University and Certified Wireless Networking Professional. These include certification prep classes on: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), CompTIA Cloud Essentials, Rack Space Cloud U, CCNA-Collaboration, CCNA-Security, Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCNET) and Wireless Certification. These certifications provide students with an additional way to demonstrate their skills and knowledge to potential employers.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that this field will be one of the fastest growing occupations during the coming decade. Job prospects in this field are excellent, especially since these jobs are less likely to be outsourced. Job titles include: Help Desk Operator, Support Technician, Support Engineer, Network Support Technician, Network Support Engineer, Network Administrator, Network Designer, Network Engineer, Solution Provider, Security Administrator (infrastructure, data, voice, cloud, wireless and applications), Network Security Architect, Network Security Engineer, Network Security Specialist, Systems Engineer, Systems Integrator, Voice Engineer, Cloud Engineer and Wireless Engineer.

Major Core Substitution Elective Options


Students may elect to choose the Cisco Cyber Ops concentration which is comprised of the following requirements: CIS 297 CyberOps (4 credits) -&- CIS 123 Linux (3 credits) and at least one additional credit (1 credit) hour from any CNT or CIS level class.

Students who wish to take the Cyber Ops focus may substitute either CIS 297 or CIS 123 for any CIS, CNT 102 or higher level class as shown in the Information Technology - Networking degree program. The additional credit hour required may be drawn from any CIS, CNT 100 or 200 level class within the CIOS department offerings. For example, students can substitute CIS 297 for CIS 162, or CIS 297 for CNT 218 etc… Other classes that qualify for substitution of either CIS 297 or CIS 123 include, but are not limited to: CIS 162, CNT 102, CNT 103, CNT 210, CNT 211, CNT 212, CNT 213, CNT 218, CNT 219, CNT 220. Classes that qualify for substitution for the additional credit hour of CIS or CNT may be drawn from any CIOS department offering.
