Information Technology - Networking, A.A.S.

A comprehensive program backed by a multibillion-dollar company, the Cisco program provides Internet technology skills essential in today’s global economy. The Information Technology - Networking (ITN) also referred to as (INTErNET) program prepares students for the 21st century in the workplace while serving as a model for successful interactive learning. The ITN A.A.S. degree provides students with a diverse education in computers and networking covering security, cyber operations, cloud systems, system architecture, virtualization, wireless security, network assurance, automation, Linux servers, web authoring, and computer infrastructure. 

Courses in this are recognized by the United States Department of Defense (DoD) as well US National Security Agency (NSA) and the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS). The United States Department of Defense has certified the Cisco CCNA Security, Cisco CCNP Security, and Cisco Cybersecurity Specialist (SCYBER) Certifications as DoD 8570.01-M compliant.  The US National Security Agency (NSA) and the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS) recognizes that the Cisco CCNA Security certification courseware meets the CNSS 4011 training standard.

The ITN degree provides exposure to a broad cross-section of computer and network security topics. The Cisco CCNA Security program at JJC is also recognized by the United States National Security Agency (NSA). The program includes hands-on experience using tools and equipment to provide businesses and governments both secure and reliable communication systems. Protection of assets inclusive of malware containment and mitigation and other types of cyber-attacks are also covered. In-depth analysis and hands-on exploration of advanced tools and topics relating to cloud, cyber operations, wireless, networking, security, automation and programmability are also a major part of the program.

The program also provides students with the opportunity to prepare for numerous highly regarded industry certifications from industry leaders such as: Cisco, CompTIA, Rackspace Cloud University and Certified Wireless Networking Professional. These include certification prep classes on: Cyber Operations, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Security, Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Enterprise (CCNP Enterprise), CompTIA Cloud Essentials, Linux Cloud Infrastructure, Linux Professional Institute Linux Essentials, and Wireless Certification. These certifications provide students with an additional way to demonstrate their skills and knowledge to potential employers.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that this field will be one of the fastest growing occupations during the coming decade. Job prospects in this field are excellent, especially since these jobs are less likely to be outsourced. Job titles include: Help Desk Operator, Support Technician, Support Engineer, Network Support Technician, Network Support Engineer, Network Administrator, Network Designer, Network Engineer, Solution Provider, Security Administrator (infrastructure, data, voice, cloud, wireless and applications), Network Security Architect, Network Security Engineer, Network Security Specialist, Systems Engineer, Systems Integrator, Voice Engineer, Cloud Engineer and Wireless Engineer.

Cisco CCNA Core Requirement (12 credit hours)

The new CCNA program validates a broad range of fundamentals for all IT careers, including: network fundamentals, network access, IP connectivity, IP services, security fundamentals, and automation and programmability.

Cisco CCNP Requirement (12 credit hours)


Achieving CCNP Enterprise certification proves your skills with enterprise networking solutions.  The new CCNP Enterprise certification program prepares you for today’s professional-level job roles in enterprise networking technologies. CCNP Enterprise now includes automation and programmability to help you scale your networking infrastructure.

Cisco CCNA Security Requirement (6 credit hours)


Courses in this are recognized by the United States Department of Defense (DoD) as well US National Security Agency (NSA) and the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS)

Major Core Elective (3 credit hours)


Students may choose any CIS, CNT, GAME or DGTL as an elective course. Note: at least 3 credits or higher are required for this category.
