Program Code: FS275
The Fire and Emergency Services combines fire science and emergency medical services theory with a liberal arts education. The program provides introductory level fire service and emergency medical service knowledge with the benefit of obtaining a degree before continuing to obtain paramedic licensure. This allows students applying for fire department positions to obtain preference points in the hiring process. In addition, it allows fulltime firefighter/paramedics to obtain a degree for promotional purposes without having to take time off work. Job outlooks show a 22% increase in entry-level EMS jobs through 2024. The average starting salary for a firefighter/EMT is between $29,000 and $40,000 per year. This wage allows the student to have steady employment with benefits while advancing their education.
