Orthotics and Prosthetics are the rapidly changing allied health fields involving orthopedic braces (orthoses) and artificial limbs (prostheses). The profession provides a vital service to the rehabilitation medicine community and to individuals with disabilities. The Orthotics and Prosthetics Technology program at JJC will provide students with the fundamental knowledge and skills required by the profession. Through general education, core curriculum and specific O&P courses, the student will gain verbal and graphical communication skills, a working knowledge of measurements and mathematics, basic human anatomy and medical terminology and specific technical and clinical skills required to perform the work of an O&P technician.

Students have the option of pursuing certificates of achievement or the AAS degree.

Completion of the AAS degree or completion of the certificates of achievement will allow the student to be eligible to sit for the National Certified Technician Exam.

Admission Requirements
The Orthotics and Prosthetics Technology AAS degree has special admissions criteria and limited enrollment. Applicants are responsible for ensuring the requirements are met and all necessary documentation is on file.
OPT 100, “Introduction to Orthotics and Prosthetics” is required to determine eligibility for the program. It is available once yearly, in the spring semester. Students are evaluated on mechanical skill and academic aptitude for acceptance into the program in the following fall semester. Students can only be registered for the introductory course once an interview has been completed with the program director.
Registration for the OPT 100 course does not guarantee placement in the program.
