Interior Design, A.A.S.

  • Interior designers analyze a client’s needs, goals and life/safety requirements. They will develop: 

    • working drawings for non-load bearing walls 

    • floor plans 

    • lighting plans  

    • furniture and materials/finishes 

    • bids, contracts and professional services necessary to implement a final design solution 

  • JJC’s interior design program is accredited with the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA). 

  • JJC’s interior design program offers options for careers in the following: 

    • residential design 

    • contract design  

    • office planning 

  • More specifically, this degree preps you for careers such as: 

    • Registered Interior Designers 

    • Registered Residential Interior Designers 

    • Certified Kitchen Designers (CKD) 

    • Certified Bath Designers (CBD) 

    • Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) Specialists 

  • JJC course offerings include topics in universal design and barrier-free design applications, with much coursework including computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software.  

  • JJC’s curriculum will provide you with the necessary background information you’ll need to sit for the following exams:  

    • Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD) exam 

    • Certified Bath Designer (CBD) exam 

    • National Council of Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) exam 

  • If you pursue a JJC interior design degree, you can choose to pursue a bachelor’s degree through our 2+2 agreement with several four-year colleges.  

  • Graduates of the program may also choose to enroll in a third year of education at JJC to earn an Advanced Designer Certificate of Achievement program.  

  • You can also take part in JJC’s Interior Design Club. This includes student chapters of the American Society of Interior Designers (A.S.I.D) and National Kitchen and Bath (NKBA).
