HUS 101 - Introduction to Human ServicesCredit Hours 3 Lecture: 3 Lab: 0 This course will provide an introduction and an overview of the Human Services systems and will explore the role and function of the human service professional. Students will gain an understanding of the creation and historical development of the human services profession. Students will become familiar with historical and current legislation that affects services. Students will gain an understanding of how public and private attitudes influence legislation and the interpretation of policies implemented with the roles and functions of Human Services workers. Course will also cover diversity of services available, intervention strategies, theoretical frameworks, and broader systems of social welfare. Students will participate in discussions with professionals in the field; as well as examine related films, articles and books that are relevant to the field of Human Services. The course will also focus on NOHS and NASW ethical code of conduct. Is course repeatable for credit?
