A computer programming degree generally involves studying a variety of programming languages. It allows students to work in a diverse industry within the information technology environments. Computer programmers are in high demand in today’s technologically advancing industries, and students enrolling in this major will receive formal, hands-on computer programming training that is necessary for today’s growing market. This major allows students to explore a variety of computer programming including Java, C++, or Visual Basic., and students may choose to specialize in specific language by selecting appropriate sequences. The most marketable areas include C++, Java, and object oriented programming. Students who want to continue their education for a bachelor’s degree can do so by transferring this degree to a four-year institution.

The most common career tracks for qualified students include: computer software engineer, computer system analyst, computer operator, applications programmer, systems programmer, computer instructor, and software administrator.
