Computer Engineering Technology (Software Development Option), A.A.S.

​Computer engineering technology professionals are employed in variety of electronic occupations such as telecommunications, computer system design and consulting services, microprocessor-based system diagnostics and repair, digital system prototyping, and various roles in the manufacturing industry. The Computer Engineering Technology (CET) program provides a unique blend of engineering technology theory and hands-on experience. The successful student will learn how to incorporate both hardware and software into microcomputer applications. Students may specialize in one of three areas: software development, systems or Cisco networking. Graduates may continue their education at many colleges and universities to earn advanced degrees.

Students should check transfer requirements with the college or university to which they wish to transfer prior to establishing a course of study at Joliet Junior College.

Computer Engineering Technology

General Education Requirements: 18 Semester Hours


Select 18 credit hours of courses from the following groups:

Group I: Communications  - Must take either ENG 101 or ENG 130. Minimum of 3 credit hours required in this category. Students may substitute ENG 102 or ENG 230 for either of the above courses.

Group II: Social and Behavioral Sciences  - 3 credit hours required in this category.

Group III: Humanities and Fine Arts  - No specific minimum credit hours required. This category is optional for AAS degrees. Students are encouraged to select a Humanities or Fine Arts course as part of their General Education coursework.

Group IV: Math/Sciences  - Select from the following suggested MATH courses; MATH 131, MATH 137, MATH 138 or MATH 170. And select from the following suggested Sciences courses; PHYS 101 OR PHYS 103.

Group V: Career Enhancement  - No specific minimum credit hours required. This category is optional for AAS degrees.
