The veterinary technician assistant (VTA) certificate is designed to train students to become a member of the veterinary team along with veterinary technicians, technologist and veterinarians. VTAs help provide basic care to animals in private practices, animal shelters, animal control facilities, pet stores, kennels and laboratories. The 250-hour program includes a 100-hour clinical externship (seminar) experience. Those students who successfully complete the certificate may apply to the JJC veterinary technology program to further their career in the veterinary field. The VTA certificate will improve application ranking in the competitive entry vet tech program, fulfill the veterinary medical terminology/medical terminology pre-requisite and the VET 118 Animal Care I course within the vet tech program.
