Computer Aided Design and Drafting, A.A.S.

Program Code: TE260

Degree Requirements

JJC’s Computer Aided Design & Drafting (CADD) program curriculum provides courses in the mechanical, architectural, and related design and engineering disciplines.  The core curriculum focuses on 2D and 3D design skills using the AutoCAD software application from beginning to advanced level applications.  The program also includes 3D Solid Modeling coursework using Pro-Engineering, SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor Pro, and Autodesk Architecture.  Electives include 3D Studio Max Design work for animation tools, and Bentley’s Microstation V8 XM design tools to round out the 2D application degree requirements.

The CADD program’s A.A.S. Design is articulated with Southern Illinois University and Northern Illinois University for their Bachelor of Science Design in Industrial Engineering Technology, and meets the general education requirements many four-year institutions request.

The use of computers for design and drafting is the preferred method of engineering and architectural firms in today’s industry. Opportunities for CADD designers continue to grow every day. Jobs in the related fields of computer aided manufacturing, geographical information systems, graphic arts, training, Internet applications, and networking continue to expand as well. Computer-generated designs are used with MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and Internet-based collaboration tools. As the use of computer-based design applications continues to expand, job opportunities for JJC students will continue to increase as well
