VTA 101 - Animal Care & ManagementCredit Hours 4 Lecture: 3 Lab: 2 This course introduces students to veterinary medicine with a focus on small animals, exotics species, and large animals. The topics taught will include roles in the veterinary hospital, medical records, anatomy & physiology, Fear Free handling, behavior, pet loss, grief & compassion fatigue, wildlife/zoo/aquarium rehabilitation, basic animal nursing care including grooming, obtaining vitals, physical exams, parasitology, and treatments for common diseases. There will be hands-on animal labs where students can perform basic nursing care on canines and felines, a class field trip to a local animal shelter to perform grooming and a trip to JJC’s agricultural center to learn about large animal medicine. Prerequisite(s): VET 100 taken prior to or concurrently Concurrent: VTA 102 and VTA 103, recommended. Is course repeatable for credit?
