FSCI 120 - Introduction to Fire ScienceCredit Hours 1 Lecture: 1 Lab: 0 This course provides an overview to fire protection; career opportunities in fire protection and related fields; philosophy and history of fire protection/services; fire loss analysis; organization and function of public and private fire protection services; fire departments as part of local government; laws and regulations affecting the fire services; fire service nomenclature; specific fire protection functions; basic fire chemistry and physics; introduction to fire protection systems; introduction to fire strategy and tactics. Students will have the opportunity to participate in cadet and externship programs at local fire departments as well as hands-on practical lab experience on main campus. This course will meet the FESHE Guidelines for Principles of Emergency Services as does the course it will eventually replace. Prerequisite(s): Minimum placement into ENG 098 and ENG 020, or higher level placement. Corequisite(s): FSCI 121 Concurrent: FSCI 121 if student is unable to use PLA to credential out of lab/clinical portion with equivilent cadet or explorer experience or higher OSFM certificate.
