Emergency medical services (EMS) have undergone a significant change in recent years, with pre-hospital providers now fully accepted as members of the larger healthcare community.  In more than half of the US, 911 emergency response is handled by cross-trained firefighter/paramedics and firefighter/EMT’s.  With this shift, the demand in northeast Illinois for educated EMS personnel has grown significantly.  In many local communities, medical responses make up 85% or more of a fire department’s total yearly call volume.

The EMS program is designed to prepare individuals for the medical demands of the modern fire service, as well as for opportunities with non-emergency ambulance agencies, hospital emergency departments, physician’s offices, clinics, industrial sites, and trauma nursing. For registration information, contact the EMS coordinator at (815) 280-2356.
